Today Winmalee 1A, PC & Springwood FRNSW responded to a small area of bush alight near the Sewerage Treatment Plant, Winmalee. Crews were on site for half an hour extinguishing and mopping up the fire. This is a timely reminder that even after all the rain, we still can get bushfires. So always make sure to complete, update and practise your Bush Fire Survival Plan.

Today our thoughts are with the People of Western Australia and especially the township of Yarloop, where it has been confirmed the death of two people and the loss of 121 homes in the ongoing Bushfire Emergency.

Winmalee Rural Fire Brigade would like to take this moment to wish everybody a happy and safe Christmas! We would also like to take a moment to thank all firefighters around Australia who are currently away from families and loved ones, fighting fires. Especially to the crews in Victoria and South Australia who are dealing with a number of serious bushfires.

Below is a new asset that arrived this week for the fire season. Pretty impressive piece of machinery! Currently on standby at Camden airport.

There is currently a large column of Smoke being produced by the Terraborra North Bushfire burning in the Hawkesbury District. The fire is contained and back burning operations are continuing to strengthen containment lines. This column is visible from Winmalee, Springwood and other locations in the Mountains. The smoke column is also showing up on the BOM radar, see below.
